Ayaz Lab Showcases Neuroengineering Research at Drexel Admitted Students Day

On Saturday, February 21, the Neuroergonomics and Neuroengineering Lab for Brain Health and Performance Research (Ayaz Lab) was excited to participate in Drexel Admitted Students Day, where newly admitted students and their families had the opportunity to explore Drexel’s academic community and engage with faculty, students, and research programs. Drexel’s Admitted Students Days are designed to help incoming students connect with the university through interactive academic sessions and student-life activities. (Drexel University)

At our table, we presented representative aspects of our research and gave visitors a hands-on look at the kinds of technologies and questions we work on in the lab. We showcased:

  • EEG systems for measuring electrical brain activity
  • fNIRS (functional near-infrared spectroscopy) for wearable brain imaging
  • Physiological biomedical sensors used to monitor body responses during real-world tasks
  • Pepper, a humanoid robot used in our human-robot interaction research

These demonstrations gave admitted students a chance to see how neuroscience, engineering, and real-world applications come together in neuroengineering and neuroergonomics.

We also displayed posters from recent conferences featuring current and recent work from the lab, including:

  • Human-robot interaction
  • Pediatric neuroimaging in autism research
  • Cognitive workload assessment in specialized operators
  • Learning and training assessment

It was a pleasure to meet future Drexel students, answer questions about biomedical engineering and neuroscience pathways, and share how wearable neurotechnology can be used to study brain health and performance in complex, everyday environments.

We thank everyone who stopped by our table, and we look forward to welcoming the next generation of Drexel Dragons!
